Foods You Should By Buying in Organic Form
The Dirty Dozen is a list that the Environmental Working Group ( EWG ) puts out each year of the 12 fruits and vegetables sampled that contain the highest levels of pesticides (aka GMOs). This list is helpful for shoppers because it shows us which foods we should be buying in the organic section to avoid exposure to high levels of pesticides.
Consuming fruit and vegetables, whether they’re organic or not, is an important part of a healthy diet. Ideally, we want all of our food to be in organic form, but this isn’t always a reality, and that’s okay. The important thing to remember is that small steps add up to bigger results.
Why Does This Matter?
The Dirty Dozen’s main purpose is to raise awareness about which fruits and vegetables contain the highest amounts of pesticides. As we all know, any exposure to pesticides is harmful to humans, especially children who are particularly vulnerable to the health problems caused by pesticides.
Switching to organic fruits and vegetables can almost immediately reduce the amounts of pesticide residue in your body because the harmful chemicals that are used on non-organic produce aren’t present.
So, if you’re just starting out or if you can only afford a few organic items, be sure to reference this list. Save it and pull it out as a reminder before you go shopping, that buying the non-gmo versions of these foods is best for your overall health and well-being.
